TRAILS, HUNTING (TROPHY) Mpofu Game Reserve extends from the Katberg Mountains in the north to the Kat River in the south and covers approximately 12 000 ha of rolling grassland and Fish River Valley Bushveld, with pockets of indigenous forest. A number of game species have been introduced. The reserve is still under development as a conservation area. Location: South-central area of province; north of Fort Beaufort. Access: From Fort Beaufort drive along the R67 towards Seymour and after approximately 25 km turn left onto the R351 towards Balfour; about 4 km further on, at the entrance to Balfour, turn left, following the road south-westward towards Buxton Forest Station; the road to the reserve branches to the left after approximately 10km. Accommodation: Ntloni Lodge sleeps 8 people and is luxuriously furnished and fully serviced. Other facilities: Guided walking trails from August to March (maximum 10 walkers per day); trophy hunting during the winter months. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: Sunrise to sunset.
